FEGIME Finland & Baltics member Elektrokomplektas UAB together with FEGIME Partner Supplier Prysmian are supplying over 200km of cable to a new onshore wind park in Lithuania. The huge project will make a major contribution to achieving the country’s climate goals and its shift to renewable energy.

A new generation onshore wind farm is to be built in Telsiai, approximately 250km north west of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. It is the first significant subsidy-free development of this kind in the Baltic states. Consisting of 13 new generation 5 MW wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 158 meters, the 68.9 MW wind farm will generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of around 78,300 homes in Lithuania, and will play a significant role in supporting the country’s target to increase its share of renewable energy sources to 45% by 2030. The deadline for completion of the work is December 2021.

“210km of 36kV underground cables are required for the project,” explains Dennis Belajevs, Managing Director of FEGIME Finland & Baltics. “The cables will be supplied by our member company Elektrokomplektas UAB and manufactured by our international Partner Supplier Prysmian Group. It is a win-win situation and a mark of our excellent cooperation in the region.”

Tarvo Leppik, Manager at Prysmian Group Baltics, commented: “EU countries are committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, moving towards a climate-neutral economy – and Prysmian Group is committed to helping. We are very happy to be working together with Elektrokomplektas on this important sustainable project.”
